World of Tanks: Modern Armor

I conducted multiple usability studies for the console version of World of Tanks assessing player-onboarding, gameplay systems comprehension, and engagement over several months. The changes made as a result of these studies led to a significant increase player comprehension and long-term retention.

Research Summary

In one of the usability studies I conducted, I found that participants were having trouble finding specific information they wanted to help them choose between some tanks. Here I applied Nielsen Norman Group’s usability heuristic of recognition rather than recall, which is to reduce the user’s memory load by displaying important information instead of making the user remember it on their own, to write the finding and recommend a direction that could be taken to reduce the issue. My recommendation was to find a way to have the information participants were looking displayed in more places so that they would have to search through the game for it.
